Local professors negotiate climate policies in Bayreuth

oikos Bayreuth hosts the simulation game "KEEP COOL" at the 14 May 2009 where six Professors from Bayreuth represent country groups such as Europe, OPEC or the developing countries.

They can choose between "black" and "green" growth policies but also adapt to inevitable climate impacts like droughts or floods, which increasingly appear as global temperature rises. Lobby groups like the oil industry or environmental groups have to be taken into account. The winner is the player who most effectively reconciles climate protection with particular economical and political interests. If some professors are too ruthless everybody looses.

Background

Climate Change is one of the main topics of that century. This project should foster the importance on an international climate change agreement and point out how difficult it is to arrive that agreement because of different interests of the participating countries.
